Horse Rescue Demonstrations at the Kentucky Horse Park

Hagyard-Davidson-McGee Associates, PLLC is presenting free Equine Rescue Demonstrations on Oct. 23 and Oct. 26, 2003, at the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington, Ky. The demonstrations are designed to educate fire/rescue personnel, first responders, veterinarians, and Horse enthusiasts about techniques and procedures to assist Horses involved in trailer accidents and other emergencies.

The demonstration for Emergency Personnel only is October 23, 8am-noon, and requires pre-registration. Emergency responders can register for the event by calling Kendra Holland at Hagyard-Davidson-McGee at 859-255-8741.

  • Jeffrey Becker, DVM, of Jeffersontown, Ky., will offer “Vehicular Rescue Involving Horses.” Dr. Becker will discuss and demonstrate such topics as assessing an accident scene; stabilizing the vehicle and trailer uprighting; emergency veterinary care; and the decision of rescue, recovery, or euthanasia.
  • Dr. Rebecca Gimenez, PhD, from Anderson College, and Allan Schwartz of Days End Farm in Maryland will present “Transport of Recumbent Horses and Mud Rescue.” Gimenez and Schwartz will demonstrate and discuss such topics as use of the Rescue Glide; sedation; how to move the Horse into the trailer; and precautions during transportation.
