USRider/EKU Large Animal Rescue Training
Eastern Kentucky University's Fire and Safety Engineering Technology Program hosted the first Large Animal Rescue sessions March 18-20 and March 22-24. The sessions were made possible by a $25,000 gift from USRider Equestrian Motor Plan, which was matched through the Commonwealth of Kentucky's "Bucks for Brains" Program. The two sessions -- one geared to working professionals, the other to Eastern students, prepared participants to handle incidents involving the rescue of large animals, particularly horses. The sessions, led by Drs. Tomas and Rebecca Gimenez, experts in large-animal rescue, were held on the EKU campus and at a local farm owned by an EKU faculty member. Additional contributions to the endowed fund may be sent to the Division of Development, CPO 19A, Jones 324, Eastern Kentucky University, 521 Lancaster Ave., Richmond, Ky., 40475-3102. US Rider Equestrian Motor Plan is a nationwide member-based organization providing roadside trailering assistance, including towing and roadside repairs for tow vehicles and trailers with horses, emergency stabling, veterinary referrals and more.
